Why it matters
City's 100% record after seven games is a strong early statement in the title race, but Arsenal are keeping pace and Brighton's attacking form makes them genuine contenders for a Champions League place. Liverpool and Manchester United, meanwhile, have work to do to stay in touch with the top four.
What happens next
European competition takes centre stage in midweek before the next Premier League round on the weekend of October 24–25, which includes Chelsea v Tottenham in a London derby.
