What could launch
Apple never confirms products in advance, but the "Pro" in the event name and detailed reports from people familiar with Apple's plans point to the Mac:
- Touchscreen MacBook Pro (14- and 16-inch): expected to be the first Macs with touchscreens, with OLED displays, a Dynamic Island cut-out at the top of the screen and a noticeably lighter, slightly thinner design. They are expected to use M5 Pro or M5 Max chips.
- Entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro: a chip upgrade to the new M6, with no design change.
- iMac: also expected to move to M6, possibly with faster Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 and new colours.
- iPad mini: a redesign with an OLED screen, improved speakers and a relocated front camera, likely with a newer A-series chip.
Why a touchscreen Mac is a big deal
For more than a decade, Apple argued that touchscreens belong on the iPad and iPhone, not the Mac, saying that reaching up to a laptop screen is uncomfortable and that macOS is built for a mouse and trackpad. A touch-enabled MacBook Pro would reverse that position and bring the Mac closer to Windows laptops that have offered touch for years.
The move to OLED would follow the iPad Pro, which switched to OLED in 2024. OLED screens show deeper blacks and stronger contrast, and can be more power-efficient, which helps battery life. The Dynamic Island — the pill-shaped area that shows alerts and activities on the iPhone — would also appear on a Mac for the first time.
What it means for buyers
- Should you wait? If you are planning to buy a MacBook Pro or iMac, waiting until after October 28 makes sense: new models usually launch at similar prices, and older models are often discounted.
- Pakistan, India and the Gulf: Apple has not announced prices or release dates. New Macs usually reach the Gulf within weeks of the US launch, while availability in Pakistan depends on authorised resellers and import costs, so local prices are typically higher than US prices.
What we don't know yet
Final names, prices, specifications and release dates will only be known on October 28. GlobeHourly will cover the launch live, with Pakistan, India and UAE prices as soon as they are announced.
