At a glance

  • AC Milan beat Inter 3-1 at San Siro on Saturday, October 31, 2026, with all four goals coming in the first 43 minutes.
  • Diego Moreira set up goals for Christian Pulisic and Adrien Rabiot, then curled in a free-kick; Alessandro Bastoni scored Inter's goal.
  • Inter's nine-match unbeaten start to the league ended, and Lazio can go three points clear when they host Cagliari on Sunday.
  • It is Milan's fourth derby win in a row, three days after they lost 4-2 at home to Bologna.

AC Milan beat Inter 3-1 in the Derby della Madonnina at San Siro on Saturday, October 31, 2026, and the game was decided before half-time. Diego Moreira scored one and created two as Ruben Amorim's side ended Inter's nine-match unbeaten start to the Serie A season. Inter lost top spot on goal difference, and Lazio can move three points clear on Sunday.

Three days earlier Milan had lost 4-2 at home to Bologna, with Moreira out injured. His return changed everything.

Ten minutes that undid Inter

Moreira needed four minutes. He reached the byline on the right, cut back and floated a left-footed cross for Christian Pulisic, who headed into the bottom corner.

The second came from a rehearsed corner. Moreira drilled it low to Adrien Rabiot, whose chip clipped the far post on the way in. Milan were 2-0 up with 10 minutes played.

Inter answered with a set piece of their own. Alessandro Bastoni headed in from a corner that had been flicked on, on 22 minutes, his first goal in 20 derby appearances. A sharp reaction save soon after stopped them from drawing level.

Then Milan won a free-kick, and Moreira took the ball away from both Pulisic and Luka Modric. His curling left-footed shot on 43 minutes restored the two-goal lead and proved to be the last goal of the night.

Minute Scorer Team How it came

10' Adrien Rabiot Milan Chip from Moreira's low corner
22' Alessandro Bastoni Inter Header from a corner
43' Diego Moreira Milan Direct free-kick

The penalty that VAR took away

Inter's best chance of a way back in the second half came and went in moments. Referee Marco Guida pointed to the spot for a handball against Milan defender Mario Gila, but a VAR review showed Henrikh Mkhitaryan's cross had struck him in the chest, and the decision was reversed.

After that, Cristian Chivu's side offered little. A blocked volley from Ange-Yoan Bonny was about all they produced before the final whistle set off long celebrations in the red and black end.

A rare free-kick in a very long rivalry

Moreira is 22 and was playing his way into derby history. His free-kick was only the third direct one scored by a Milan player in this derby since detailed records began in 2004-05. Andrea Pirlo scored one in a league meeting in December 2007, and Theo Hernandez did it in the Italian Super Cup in January 2025.

Rabiot's run is quietly just as useful for Amorim. He has now scored or assisted in each of his last five league games, with four goals and two assists.

This was also Milan's fourth straight win in the fixture, a run that will sting Inter even more with the old stadium's days numbered. The two clubs announced this week that they plan to move into a new shared home, the Generali Stadium.

What the result does to the top of Serie A

Inter stay on 25 points, the same as Lazio, who lead on goal difference. Lazio have the chance to open a three-point gap when they host Cagliari on Sunday. Roma, who thumped Udinese on Saturday, are third on 24, one point behind.

Milan had started the night seven points behind Inter. They have now cut that to four, and the wobble against Bologna looks a lot less serious than it did on Wednesday.

Team Points Note
Lazio 25 Top on goal difference, host Cagliari on Sunday
Inter 25 First league defeat of the season
Roma 24 Beat Udinese on Saturday
AC Milan 21 Fourth straight derby win

Inter's next test is how quickly they recover. Lazio's game against Cagliari on Sunday will show whether this defeat costs them more ground.
