How the two teams got here

Team Played Points
Pakistan 4 6
Sri Lanka 4 4
England 4 2

Pakistan won their first three games. Salman Ali Agha's 107 set up a 37-run win in Rawalpindi on the opening day, October 18, and Shaheen Shah Afridi took 3-55. Then came Tuesday's collapse: from 61-4, Pakistan lost their last six wickets for 49 and were out for 110 in 25.3 overs. Dilshan Madushanka took a career-best 5-34, Kamindu Mendis finished unbeaten on 62, and Sri Lanka won by eight wickets.

Sri Lanka's form has swung just as wildly. They chased down 430 against England earlier in the series, the second-highest successful chase in ODI history, then on Thursday conceded 386-5 to England and lost by 55 runs in a dead rubber. Ben Duckett's 167 in that match was a warning to Sri Lanka's bowlers about this pitch.

The squads

Pakistan: Shaheen Shah Afridi (captain), Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Sahibzada Farhan, Hasan Nawaz, Maaz Sadaqat, Salman Ali Agha, Saad Baig, Ghazi Ghori, Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Arafat Minhas, Abrar Ahmed, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Razaullah.

Sri Lanka: Kusal Mendis (captain), Pathum Nissanka, Avishka Fernando, Kamil Mishara, Pavan Rathnayake, Janith Liyanage, Kamindu Mendis, Sahan Arachchige, Dasun Shanaka, Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana, Sachindu Colombage, Dushmantha Chameera, Asitha Fernando, Dilshan Madushanka, Eshan Malinga.

Neither playing XI has been confirmed. Two selection points stand out. Sahibzada Farhan joined from Nepal on the morning of Tuesday's game and was not considered ready to start, so he could come in at the top of the order; Fakhar Zaman's place was under discussion. Naseem Shah has returned from a finger injury. For Sri Lanka, Nissanka was named subject to fitness and his availability is unclear.

Conditions in Lahore

The Pakistan Meteorological Department's outlook points to dry weather over most of the country on Saturday, and Lahore is expected to be in the low 30s Celsius, so rain looks unlikely. No reserve day has been announced in anything the board has published. The Lahore surface has favoured batting, with 386 made there on Thursday, although Pakistan's 110 shows what swing and a loose innings can do under the same conditions.

The team that wins the toss will have to weigh evening dew against scoreboard pressure. The final's XIs will be known at the 12:30pm toss on Saturday.
