Milan 2-4 Bologna: how it happened
Bologna struck first after eight minutes when Nadir Zortea crossed from the right and Mbangula swept the ball in from close range. Milan answered quickly. On 14 minutes Arthur Theate made two mistakes in the same move and Alphadjo Cissè rolled in the equaliser, and on 27 minutes the young forward volleyed home a Fikayo Tomori cross to make it 2-1.
Milan lost Tomori to injury before half-time, with Luka Modric coming on and Yunus Musah moving to right-back. Bologna took control after the break. On the hour a Juan Miranda free-kick deflected off Davide Bartesaghi at the back post for 2-2, and two minutes later Mbangula beat two defenders and finished to put Bologna ahead.
Milan pushed for an equaliser: Francesco Camarda's header hit the far post and Lukasz Skorupski tipped over a diving header from Christian Pulisic. With four minutes left Jens Odgaard found Mbangula on the right and he completed his hat-trick.

Bologna were without Riccardo Orsolini, Roberto Piccoli and Emil Holm but extended a run of away wins after victories at Lecce and Cagliari.
Inter edge Venezia with two own goals
Inter struggled for most of the evening at bottom club Venezia, where goalkeeper Ivan Provedel made several fine saves. The breakthrough came on 79 minutes when Marcus Thuram drove in from the left and his low ball went in off Matías Moreno. Three minutes later, from a Hakan Calhanoglu corner, the ball went in off Redouane Halhal after a faint touch from Carlos Augusto.
Coach Cristian Chivu admitted his side had been lucky and said he had wanted to change the whole team at half-time.

Background
Amorim, in his first season at Milan, had been unbeaten in the league and his side had been seen as a title challenger. Milan also lost to Bournemouth in the Europa League earlier this month, and the growing injury list has stretched the squad. Bologna had not won a Serie A match after falling behind since January.
Why it matters
The defeat leaves Milan seven points off the top after only nine rounds, a gap that will grow to ten if Inter win the derby. For Inter, the win at Venezia was unconvincing but kept them unbeaten and level with Lazio.
What happens next
The Derby della Madonnina between Milan and Inter is on Saturday, October 31, at San Siro. Bologna, Lazio and the rest of the league play matchday 10 over the same weekend, while Venezia remain bottom with three points.
