At a glance

  • Real Madrid won 3-0 at Racing Santander with all three goals before half-time: Mbappe (11, penalty), Bellingham (21) and Diomande (36).
  • Madrid are third in La Liga, one point behind Atletico Madrid and three behind Barcelona.
  • Lazio beat Cagliari 2-1 with an 83rd-minute winner from substitute Andrea Pinamonti to go top of Serie A, three points clear of Inter, whom Milan beat on Saturday.
  • Como stayed fourth by beating last-placed Venezia 1-0, while Getafe came from behind to beat Sevilla 3-1.

Real Madrid beat Racing Santander 3-0 on Sunday, November 1, with the match effectively over by half-time, to make it six wins in a row and stay three points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona. In Italy, substitute Andrea Pinamonti scored in the 83rd minute to give Lazio a 2-1 win over Cagliari and first place in Serie A.

Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring in Santander from the penalty spot in the 11th minute, after being fouled himself. It was his 12th league goal of the season. He then helped create Jude Bellingham's goal in the 21st minute, and summer signing Yan Diomande hit a powerful third in the 36th.

A calmer night after a noisy week for Mbappe

The game gave Mbappe some relief. He finished second to Bayern Munich's Harry Kane in the men's Ballon d'Or on Monday, then apologised on Tuesday for remarks in which he apparently called Mao Zedong a dictator, after a backlash in China and the loss of brand deals with Chinese companies.

La Liga also held a moment of silence before every match this weekend for the victims of the train crash in Spain.

Position Team Gap to leader

2 Atletico Madrid 2 points
3 Real Madrid 3 points

Barcelona went back to the top with a 6-1 win over Alaves on Saturday. Racing, meanwhile, have now lost six of their 11 league games. Getafe, struggling near the wrong end of the table, turned a deficit into a 3-1 win over Sevilla, with Enes Unal equalising in the 68th minute after a Martin Satriano assist, Satriano adding the second five minutes later and Orel Mangala scoring deep into stoppage time.

Pinamonti's late shirt-off winner

Lazio needed their bench. M'Bala Nzola had given Cagliari the lead around the 20-minute mark, and Gustav Isaksen levelled before half-time. The game looked set to end level until Pinamonti arrived with seven minutes left, then pulled off his sky-blue shirt in celebration.

The win lets Lazio take full advantage of Saturday's Milan derby, in which Milan beat defending champions Inter 3-1, and moves them three points clear of Inter.
